Year 3

Welcome back, we have missed you all and cannot wait to begin learning with you! We know that it is a strange time with leaving in March as Year 2 and coming back in September as Year 3 but we want to make this transition as smooth as possible for you.

This year Miss Keates will be teaching 3SL Tuesday-Friday and Mrs Wardman will be teaching on a Monday. The LSA's in 3SL are Miss Wachnuik and Miss Gordon. 3TS will be taught by Mrs Zaheer and Miss Iqbal. The LSA's are Miss Wilford, Mrs Devi and Miss Ibrar.

For the first week back we will be spending a lot of time on wellbeing and talking about the changes we have experienced and the feelings that we have. We will then begin curriculum lessons.

Don't worry about all of the work you have missed, we will plan opportunities until Christmas to work hard and fill in the gaps.

In Maths we will be focusing on place value and basic number skills to begin with. We will be using both concrete and pictorial representations to support us with this, before beginning some problem solving questions.

In English our text is 'The Flower' by John Light. We will be learning to use KS1 skills to write a new version of the story.

In IPC our topic 'Let's Plant it' is Science based and will focus on the Year 3 plant curriculum. We will be learning the functions of different plant parts, understanding what plants need and how water is transported through a plant. We will also be doing some observational Art work around the famous artist Georgia O'Keeffe.

In ICT we will be completing a unit on E-safety and in P.E we will begin basket ball. Our R.E question this half term is 'What different religions believe about God? We will be focusing on the religions of Christianity, Islam and Judaism.

To support your children please read their reading book with them and sign this to say this has been completed. We will aim to listen to all children read once per week.

You can also help your children by practising their spellings and times tables each week. Practising times tables now will help children prepare for the times table test which is statutory in Year 4.

You can practise these using PIXL and Sum Dog.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents for the support they have given us and the children during this unprecedented time.
