If a child has a sensory impairment such as a hearing or visual difficulty, we can work alongside the visually impaired or hearing impaired team who can provide strategies and resources for inclusion. These might include hearing aids, magnifiers and braille resources. If a child has a visual impairment, we enlarge print or use technology to read text out loud.
Some children find noise, visually busy environments, certain smells, tastes or textures over stimulating or uncomfortable. We speak to children to form individualised plans for positive inclusion. The Nurture Room is used for, ‘quiet time’ if a child is over stimulated.
Some children need fiddle toys or chew necklaces to help them keep on task and calm. St Matthew’s can provide these resources on an individual need basis.
