Community Room
My name is Diane Lock and I am the Parental Involvement Officer here at St Matthew’s.
I have worked in this role for 19 years and have very much enjoyed being part of the St Matthew’s Community.
I am based in the Community Room, which is the bungalow on the corner of the top playground. I do work part time but am always here Monday to Thursday morning. You can normally find me on the Ivy House Rd gate three mornings a week.
My role covers a wide range of activities including:
- Organising adult education courses. These include ESOL, Maths, English and Sewing. These give parents the opportunity to learn new skills and gain qualifications.
- On a Wednesday morning I run a Parent and Toddler group. This is a chance for parents and children to socialise and make new friends. We also do messy play activities.
- Work with teachers to provide information, through workshops, for parents. My main focus is in Early Years.
- I am a trained Family Links facilitator, so can help parents with behaviour management strategies and health and wellbeing.
- I work to promote the 50 Things to do before you are 5 and 50 Things primary programmes.
- I work to organise and support community events such as the Winter Fair, Mother’s Day shop, Community Lunch, and Coffee Mornings, to name but a few. I am always on the look out for parents who can help out at these events.
- Information can be found on the notice board in the tunnel between Nursery and the main school office.
Please say hello and let me know if you have any suggestions about activities you would like to see in the Community Room.
