Welcome to the Year 2 web page. In Year 2 we enjoy building our independence and using this to help us learn in a variety of ways. The teachers are Ms Iqbal and Mrs Chorlton. The teaching assistants are Mrs Akhtar, Miss Wachnuik and Mrs Wilford.
This term in English we are focusing on the text Little Evie in the Wild Wood. We will be developing our use of descriptions and relating the story to ones we already know. For writing we will be writing both Fiction and Non-Fiction texts including instructions.
In Maths we are working towards our tests and starting to use the skills built over the year to solve problems in lots of different contexts. We are still learning our times tables and number bonds. We enjoy maths as there are lots of ways to solve the problems and we can use the equipment around us in our classroom.
Our topics this half term are ‘Bradford' and 'Plants'. We will be learning about how bradford was discovered and some facts from bradfords past, including the story of the Bradford Boar. We will be working with Sian and Simon on this. We will build on what we learnt about the characteristics of living things and investigate how plants grow and what happens when they grow. We will also question the conditions plants need to grow healthy.
To help your child at home you could practise counting in 1's, 2's 5's and 10's backwards and forwards starting at any number up to 100. Also practise timetables 2, 5 and 10.
When you are reading with your child please ask questions about what your child is reading and their opinions on the book as well as signing their reading jotters.
Examples of questions include:
- What is your favourite part of the story?
- Why do you like think a character did that?
- What might happen next?
- Can you find a word that means the same as……?
You could also ask your child their English and Maths targets and practise these skills with them.
Homework is given on a Friday and is due back the following Wednesday.
