Welcome to the Year 2 web page. In Year 2 we enjoy building our independence and using this to help us learn in a variety of ways. The teachers are Miss Keates and Mrs Chorlton. The teaching assistants are Mrs Janghir, Miss Wachnuik, Miss Holt and Mr Taqi.
This term in English we are focusing on the text 'Little Evie in the Wild Woods' . We will be developing our understanding of what the text means and making predictions about what we think will happen. For writing we will be writing both Fiction and Non-Fiction texts including instructions. We will be continuing to develop our use of conjunctions, punctuation and noun phrases.
In Maths we are making sure we understand what a number is and how many tens and ones are in it. We are using lots of equipment and images to help with this and moving on to pictoral representations. We will then use this knowledge to solve problems and calculations. We enjoy maths as there are lots of ways to solve the problems and we can use the equipment around us in our classroom.
We are starting a new topic called 'The Earth our Home' and will be learning all about different habitats and animals. The children will have lots of experiences and it will be linked to our Art and DT programmes of study.
To help your child at home you could practise counting in 1's, 2's, 5's and 10's backwards and forwards starting at any number up to 100. Also practise timetables 2, 5 and 10.
When you are reading with your child please ask questions about what your child is reading and their opinions on the book as well as signing their reading jotters.
Examples of questions include:
- What is your favourite part of the story?
- Why do you like think a character did that?
- What might happen next?
- Can you find a word that means the same as……?
You could also ask your child their English and Maths targets and practise these skills with them.
Homework is given at the start of a half term and should be returned by the last Wednesday of the half term. This will include projects around our IPC topics.
