Welcome to the Year 2 web page. In Year 2 we enjoy building our independence and using this to help us learn in a variety of ways. The teachers are Ms Iqbal and Mrs Chorlton. The teaching assistants are Mrs Akhtar, Mrs Ibrar, Mrs Percival and Mrs Kittsen.
This term in English we are focusing on the text The Dark and are further developing our reading skills by predicting, answering questions and developing on the vocabulary used in the text. For writing we will be writing both Fiction and Non-Fiction texts including a non-chronological report. Next half term we will be exploring poems and the language used within them as well as writing our own poems.
In Maths we are continuing to revise for our SATs which will include counting, number bonds and place value knowledge. We are also learning to solve problems using addition and subtraction and different strategies we can use to help us. We enjoy maths as there are lots of ways to solve the problems and we can use the equipment around us in our classroom. We will also begin to develop our knowledge of fractions, time and shape.
Our topics this first half term are ‘Explorers’ and 'Plants’. We will be learning about Bradford past and present. There will be a visit to City Park and the library. In science we will look at how plants grow and how to keep them healthy.
In Summer 2 our topic will be ‘Seaside’. We are looking forward to comparing the seaside to the past and present and where we live.
To help your child at home you could practise 2, 5, 10 times table and division facts as well as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division strategies.
When you are reading with your child please ask questions about what your child is reading and their opinions on the book as well as signing their reading jotters.
Examples of questions include:
- What is your favourite part of the story?
- Why do you like think a character did that?
- What might happen next?
- Can you find a word that means the same as……?
You could also ask your child their English and Maths targets and practise these skills with them.
Homework is given on a Friday and is due back the following Wednesday.
