Welcome to the Year 2 web page. In Year 2 we enjoy building our independence and using this to help us learn in a variety of ways. The teachers are Miss Keates, Mrs Wardman and Mrs Chorlton. The teaching assistants are Mrs Janghir, Miss Wachnuik, Mrs Bedford and Mrs Kauser.
This term in English we are focusing on the story 'Bob the Man on the Moon'.We will be continuing to build our skills of using, finger spaces, fullstops and capital letters. We will be developing our writing using description and conjunctions.
In Maths we are making sure we understand what a number is and how many tens and ones are in it. We are using lots of equipment and images to help with this. We will then use this knowledge to solve problems and calculations. We enjoy maths as there are lots of ways to solve the problems and we can use the equipment around us in our classroom.
We are starting a new topic called 'Brainwave' and will be learning all about how the brain helps us learn. The children will have lots of experiences and it will be linked to our Science.
To help your child at home you could practise counting in 1's, 2's, 3's, 5's and 10's backwards and forwards starting at any number up to 100. Also practising number bonds within 20.
When you are reading with your child please ask questions about what your child is reading and their opinions on the book as well as signing their reading jotters.
Examples of questions include:
- What is your favourite part of the story?
- Why do you like think a character did that?
- What might happen next?
- Can you find a word that means the same as……?
You could also ask your child their English and Maths targets and practise these skills with them.
Homework is given at the start of a half term and should be returned by the last Monday of the half term. This will be our 'St Matthew's Super Six'. Spellings and reading should be done weekly.
